The Schools White Paper was published on 23rd February 2026. There will now be a 12 week period of consultation on the proposals in the white paper. The consultation closes on 18 May 2026.
Reading Families Forum is reading and digesting the details of these proposals. We will be providing our own response to the consultation over the coming weeks. We plan to organise online and in person events where families can
-
find out more about the proposals
-
give us feedback to inform our response to the consultation
-
get support to make your own consultation response
-
discuss the impact on local families so that any specific issues can be raised with the local authority and NHS to inform their responses to the consultation.
Details of how to get involved will appear on this page as soon as we have more information.
RFF staff and trustees are meeting regularly with the Local Authority during this time.
We cannot stress enough that there are no immediate changes to any support available to children and young people and the existing law remains in place until any new law is passed by parliament.
If you are concerned about your legal rights or the provision your child / young person is receiving, you can get impartial advice from Reading IASS.

Reading Families’ Forum (RFF) is an independent charity run by and for families of disabled children and young adults aged 0 – 25 years. We are Reading’s local parent carer forum and are part of the National Network of Parent Carer Forums. We work to ensure that local parent carers and young people with additional needs have a voice about the local services that they use.
